I write in support of Compliance Education as the Health and Safety provider of a broad range of services for the two schools in the federation I lead. Although there are only two schools, the sites and the buildings couldn’t be more different; one is a three floor Victorian School Board Building on a major road in southeast London and the other is single-story, set at the edge of city woodlands

In the five years we have been with Compliance Education, we have been extremely pleased with the service they offer. They provide twice yearly visits to each building and site, and have provided a comprehensive range of policies and procedures that are bespoke for each school. The documentation provided is easy to read and follow-up with. Their reports give reassurance to Governors too.

Personnel from Compliance Education carry out onsite assessments and, in the past, have even tested staff and pupil response to events such as ‘lockdown’ procedures. As a result of the visits, they know the school and the site and are at the end of the phone to be able to guide and provide reassurance as and when it is required.

The service offered is not just policy and procedural for the organisation, it can be bespoke to individuals too. We have used Compliance Education to speak with staff to carry out risk assessments for pregnancy and those returning from injury or surgery.

I believe Compliance Education provide value for money. Their pricing structure is clear and concise. Their response times to email and telephone calls are swift. Although other companies offer virtual support, I believe seeing the site visits are a key aspect of successful Health and Safety.

The support and incredible service from Compliance Education has been outstanding for our school.

Having our own Compliance officer who supports our school with all matters of Health & Safety has ensured we are compliant and well supported, removing all stress from management.

I am a Resources Director in a Secondary School and have over twenty years of experience and, during this time, I have seen service level agreements come and go.

Like many professionals in my position, my remit includes responsibility for Health and Safety and, until recently, we had an SLA with the Local Authority to support the school with this. This service basically provided the Competent Person role whilst offering telephone advice. This was not the greatest SLA but it was there if I needed it.

I was informed by the Headteacher that he had invited Compliance Education into school to discuss support with risk assessments as well as considering them to provide our Health and Safety support rather than the LA.

At the meeting we discussed our risk assessments and what their service included if we appointed them including the Competent Person role. It seemed too good to be true – they would identify gaps in our Health and Safety procedures, documents policies and would work with me in filling in the gaps making the School fully compliant. “Great!” I thought, this, in reality, would be them identifying the gaps giving me a shed load of work filling them in. Only time would prove how wrong I was.

We appointed Compliance Education for one year in the first instance and quickly they provided the Covid risk assessments needed to reopen the school following the lockdown. A meeting was set for the following week to start ‘filling in the gaps’ in our H&S procedures etc. This meeting did indeed identify gaps and these were quickly filled in by Compliance Education with documents, procedures and policies adapted for use in our school. Within three months we were fully compliant! This was a real weight of worry off my shoulders.

The SLA also provides monthly update meetings where issues are discussed and reviews take place. It also includes accident investigation works – extremely useful for those more serious incidents – as well as being able to call on them to work on one-off unusual risks assessment that would normally have taken much of my time to create and complete. A telephone call, a meeting…. sorted!

All this service for an extremely reasonable price. This SLA gives me full assurance that we are fully compliant with H&S as well as knowing that I have a team of experts behind me when I need them. Not only that, the price they charge is not extortionate, it is reasonably priced and so provides excellent value for money too. This is why I consider this the most effective and best value for money SLA I have every engaged in my twenty years at the school. I wish we had discovered Compliance Education earlier!
